In Bolivia, nestled within the Central Andes and just across the border from Chile and Argentina, lie the Salar de Uyuni salt flats.
The flattest place in the world, it used to be a prehistoric lake – with the lake long evaporated, the ground is now home to a thick layer of salt.
During the rainy season (December to April), the flats are transformed into the world’s largest mirror. Nearby lakes overflow to create a shallow layer of water across the flats, and the result is truly stunning. With the sky reflected on the ground, you’ll feel like you’re walking on clouds.
This guided tour in a 4x4 takes you around the town of Uyuni, to the salt hotel for lunch, to the Bolivian White Desert to see giant cacti and of course, right into the salt flats to take some stunning photos.

It’s stunning at any time of year, but if you want to see the mirror effect, March-April is best, while the best climate is between July and October.
“Salar” is Spanish for salt flat, while “Uyuni” is the name of the nearby town.
Yes, as well as tours from Uyuni itself and Tupiza in Bolivia, you can also take a tour from San Pedro de Atacama in Chile.
