All Aboard! A Direct Train from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur Is Finally on Track!
Get your snacks, playlists, and window seats ready—because by the end of 2025, you'll finally be able to ride the rails straight from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur.

While we’re still waiting on exact travel times and prices, the idea is to give travellers a relaxed, scenic alternative to short-haul flights—minus the airport queues and baggage weight anxiety. There’s also talk of extending the route into Malaysia’s Pasir Mas and Rantau Panjang, though that’ll mean sprucing up some older track near the border at Su-ngai Kolok.
This revival is part of a broader rail renaissance in Asia: Thailand’s working on a high-speed line to Nong Khai, Vietnam’s weighing up its own fast train network, and even Morocco’s getting in on the action.
So, whether you’re a backpacker, train nerd, or just someone who hates airports, this Bangkok–KL sleeper is shaping up to be your next favourite way to cross borders—with style, scenery, and a whole lot less stress.
