What kit will I need?
Clothing
Due to the large variation in altitude, the temperature can change dramatically as you ascend, and therefore, layering is key.
- Base Layers - We recommend merino wool for its warmth, breathability and odour resistance.
- T-Shirts/Long sleeve t-shirts - you will need 5/6
- Insulation layer - e.g fleece/sweatshirt
- Down jacket
- Waterproof jacket
- Trousers/Shorts - 1/2 pairs of each (preferably water-resistant) plus one pair of waterproof pullovers
- Hiking socks - These need to be warm, breathable and moisture-wicking. As with the base layers, we recommend merino wool.
- Thermal socks - For colder conditions.
- Underwear
- Gloves - 1 pair of lighter gloves for warmer conditions, and 1 pair of insulated gloves for colder conditions.
- Footwear - We recommend hiking boots rather than shoes are they provide more support and reduce the risk of injury. Ensure you choose a pair that are comfortable and the right size, and make sure to 'break them in', by wearing them on plenty of treks prior to your departure.
Other items
- A duffle bag (if you have porters, otherwise a comfortable backpack) plus a smaller daypack to store your personal items.
- Raincover (for your bag)
- Sleeping bag (rated for at least -10°C)
- Trekking poles (you can buy or rent these)
- Bug spray
- Sunscreen
- Portable charger
- Headtorch
- Sunglasses
- Snacks (dried fruit, nuts, energy bars)
- Earplugs
