Each year, at the end of August, some 80,000 people descend on the temporary city of 'Black Rock', in the heart of the Nevada Desert, for an epic event like no other, guided by 10 key principals: radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, participation, and immediacy.
The 2025 Burning Man Festival begins on August 24th and ends on September 1st.
The site is located 120 miles north of Reno, Nevada which can be reached by flights from a number of cities including, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas and New York. Once you arrive in Reno, you can drive to the site or take the coach which departs twice daily.
No, attendees must provide their own accommodation (tent, RV etc) and can book spaces via their website.
The name comes from the ritual that is performed at the end of the event each year in which a large effigy is set alight.
