Cameroon’s rich biodiversity makes it one of the best wildlife-viewing destinations in all of Africa and there are numerous destinations to choose from, each offering their own unique attraction.

The north of the country is the primary region for traditional ‘big game’ safari, centred around Waza National Park, along with, slightly to its south, the neighbouring parks of Faro, Bouba Njida, and Benoue, which boast a diversity of large animals. In the east, Korup National Park offers walking and boat-based safari’s, whilst in the south the neighbouring parks of Nki and Lobeke, are prime locations for viewing gorillas and forest-elephants, along with myriad species of bird and reptile.

Visit a jungle waterfall

Set deep in the Nkongsamba jungle in the west of the country, the 82-metre high Ekom-Nkam Waterfalls are among the most beautiful in the world.

And were famously featured in the 1984 movie Tarzan:Greystoke. Despite their seemingly remote location, the falls are accessible via car or taxi followed by a short hike, and can be combined with a trip to the twin Melong crater lakes in the nearby village of Bangam.

Climb Mount Cameroon

At over 4,000 metres tall, the volcanic Mount Cameroon, also known as Mount Fako or Mongo ma Ndem, is the highest peak in West and Central Africa.

Reaching the mountain peak is an awe-inspiring experience, though requires a good level of fitness and must be done with an accredited guide, or as part of a group tour.

Tour a tea plantation
