Uzbekistan’s ancient cities were once important trade hubs along the silk road, and, though much has changed since then.

Their thriving bazaars remain key centers of commerce for locals and international visitors alike. Visiting one of these bazaars is a great way to experience local culture and also, to pick up a bargain or two; Chorsu Bazaar in Tashkent, Samarkand’s Siyob Bazaar and Kumtepa Bazaar, just outside of the city of Margilan, are three of the best.

Go skiing

Visit a ship cemetery

Moynaq, a once busy fishing port on the banks of the lake is home to the largest concentration of ships, leading to the nickname ‘the ship graveyard’.

Situated in the heart of the Kyzylkum desert, the mysterious Elliq Qala - also known as ‘The Golden Ring’ - is a complex of 50 ancient rock fortresses.

Thought to date back to the 4th century and considered one of the most important archeological sites in all of Central Asia.
