Vietnam’s Uniquely Beautiful Waters

Ha Long Bay is Northern Vietnam’s most famous attraction. The bay’s deep emerald waters are often described as like something straight out of a film – in which it has featured many times. Its name means “descending dragon” and is from an ancient myth about a dragon that was sent to protect the Vietnamese people.

There are roughly 1,600 limestone islands that make up the bay, some of which are over 20 million years old. People like to spend their time exploring the caves, going diving or taking a cruise around the waters. Whatever you get up to, there’s plenty to make for an unforgettable experience.

Faq?

There are cruises for all budgets: you can spend as little as $60 per person for a day trip all the way up to $350 for a luxury overnight cabin. You get what you pay for – better food and accommodation the higher up the scale you go.

The crime levels are relatively low here. There are also no sharks. Any safety concerns surround the fact that safety regulations don’t always match the high standards you would expect. So, be sure to choose your activity guides carefully.

The bay is roughly 579 square miles – so lots to explore! You’re unlikely to see everything so be sure to prioritise. It’s also home to over 1600 fisherman who undoubtedly have many stories to tell if you happen to meet one.
