Launched by the team behind the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express back in 2000, the Northern Belle is the UK’s answer to the world’s most glamorous locomotive. Think: 1930s Pullman-style carriages with glossy wood panelling, plush armchairs, and crisp white tablecloths — all the trimmings of a bygone golden age of travel (minus the coal dust).

Once aboard, you’ll be handed champagne and caviar before tucking into a seven-course Christmas feast complete with wine pairings. Between courses, live musicians will serenade you with festive classics while a roaming magician adds a touch of sparkle to the journey. It’s the kind of experience that makes the Polar Express look like a commuter train.

This December, the Northern Belle will be gliding across the country, hosting round-trip “Christmas Lunch” journeys from cities including London, Glasgow, Manchester, Norwich, Hull, Coventry, and Edinburgh, among others.

Tickets don’t come cheap — £395 a head — but for a few glorious hours of vintage luxury (and bragging rights for the most extra Christmas lunch ever), it might just be worth it.

You can check all departure dates and book via the Northern Belle website. Just don’t forget your best festive frock — this is not a tracksuit kind of train!
