New Covid travel rules in England and Scotland to come into effect with day 2 testing scrapped!

International travel is set to receive its biggest boost in some time, with the Government set to scrap all testing for fully vaccinated travellers or those under the age of 18.

The rule changes will come into effect from 4 am on Friday 11 February, just in time for the half-term break, and though currently, they will apply to England and Scotland only, Wales and Northern Island are expected to follow suit.

Paris is just one of the destinations that could see an influx of British holidaymakers after Feb 11th

In addition to removing the need to show proof of a negative Covid test before returning home (which came into effect earlier this month), fully vaccinated travellers (who received their second dose at least 14 days before returning home), will no longer have to take day 2 test after returning home.

In addition, unvaccinated travellers will no longer need to isolate for 10 days after arriving back home. Instead, they will be required to take a pre-departure test and a day 2 PCR test, though all arrivals will still be required to fill in a passenger locator form regardless of their vaccination status.

Travelling abroad is set to become much easier for British holidaymakers

However, depending on their destination, Brits travelling abroad may still face a confusing set of rules. Most countries insist on proof of full vaccination, or a negative Covid-19 test result taken no more than 48 hours before departure. To make things easier for families, children aged 12 to 15 years old (who are currently excluded from the programme) will be given access to digital Covid passes from February 3.

The rule changes represent a major boost to the UK travel industry, with insiders expecting to see a surge in holiday bookings for half-term and beyond.
