Itinerary

Scotlandnorth500

Suggested Route 1: Scotland 500

The Scottish Highlands brooding atmosphere and misty hills carry with them a true sense of escapism from the world as we know it. This 500 mile trip from Inverness coils clockwise through the untamed fringes of Scotlands famous rugged nature, hitting some iconic sites such as Loch Ness and the Isle of Skye. If you like landscapes that look plucked straight out of an 18th-century fantasy novel and your favourite tipple is the world's finest whisky, this is the route for you

Suggested Route 2: Lake District Road Trip

England's most-visited national park is a stretch of serenity dotted with vast expanses of water as elegant as the swans that glide across them. Windermere is a huge lake to begin with (the largest in the country) and a great place to kickstart your road trip. Grasmere and Rydal water are great lakes for a slice of culture, which is precisely why it's been a favourite muse of various poets through the ages, for scattered islets and a slightly more quaint offering Derwentwater is as charming as it comes. For a little extra greenery go for a leisurely stroll in Whinlatter Forest Park.

Suggested Route 3: Atlantic Highway

If the coast is your cup of tea, this route has all of the salty sea air and craggy coastal cliff edges that you could shake a stick of rock at. The Atlantic Highway cuts through Somerset, Cornwall and Devon. The fishing villages are dotted generously along the route and a dip into the cool waters of Bude is a must.

Suggested Route 4: Wales

Wales is the often overlooked sibling of England and Scotland, much smaller in size and grandiose history, but every bit as rich in natural beauty and road trip potential. Brecon Becons is a hall of valleys and mountains that look purpose-built for driving through. Driving west from Brecon Beacons you should make the effort to stop by Carmarthen for a cute market town break. Gower Peninsula south of Swansea is a heart-meltingly quaint slither of coastal joy perfect for hiking and surfing. Pembrokeshire road is stitched alongside the coast with a stunning period castle added in for good measure.

Roadtripcotswolds

Suggested Route 5: Cotswolds

A buttery sweet string of stone town that fits the description everyone imagines when closing their eyes and conjuring the most quintessential British countryside possible. It's chocolate box villages are the envy of anyone who loves the great outdoors. Wiltshire's Castle Combe, Bibury, South Leigh, take your pick, whichever route you chose you'll be greeted with friendly locals, thatched roof pubs and hearty food.

Highlights you should consider: walking the Cotswolds way, Cotswold lavender farm, Warwick castle, Cotswold falconry, Antique hunting in Cirencester.
